Why Editing Matters

The Same Shot, Three Different Meanings

Early film theorists showed that a viewer reads a face differently depending on the shot that follows it. This is the heart of editing.

The same face, then a bowl of soupThe audience reads: Hunger.
The same face, then a child playingThe audience reads: Warmth.
The same face, then a coffinThe audience reads: Grief.

The face never changes. Only the cut does. A film editor decides what the audience understands and feels, which is why editing is a storytelling skill and not only a software skill. In our classes you practise exactly this: same footage, different edits, different stories.

Try It: Pacing

Change the Rhythm, Change the Feeling

Here is a 24-second sequence. Drag the slider to change how long each shot stays on screen.

Pacing is a choice, not a rule. Trailers, drama, documentaries and Reels all use different rhythms, and you learn to match the rhythm to the story and the platform.

Post-Production

From Rushes to Release

Tap a stage to see what happens there. You work through every one of them in class.

Ingest

Copy, back up and organise the rushes. Name bins, sync audio and set up the project. Careful organisation saves days later.

You learn editing fundamentals, shot language and continuity, Adobe Premiere Pro, narrative scene construction, DaVinci Resolve colour work, sound editing, titles and motion graphics, editing for YouTube, Reels and Shorts, AI-assisted tools and portfolio preparation.
