Colour Grading

Colour work has two stages. Correction fixes technical issues: exposure, white balance, contrast and matching shots recorded at different times. Grading adds a creative look: warm and nostalgic, cool and tense, bright and commercial.
Skin tones are the first test. If faces look unnatural, viewers sense something is wrong. DaVinci Resolve is the standard teaching tool for colour, with its node-based workflow, scopes and secondary correction. A beginner does not need to be a colourist, but must be able to produce consistent, natural-looking footage.
Audio Editing and Sound Design

Viewers forgive soft pictures more readily than bad sound. Audio editing covers dialogue clean-up, noise reduction, room tone, music selection, sound effects, ambience and balancing levels. Even simple changes, like fading a music bed under dialogue, lift the quality of a video.
